Bright Tangerine Prodigy Rain Deflector from Newsshooter on Vimeo.

Bright Tangerine showcased a unique new Matte Box at Cinegear 2019. The Prodigy is a new system that deflects rain.

So how does the Prodigy work? The system makes use of a pressure blower. At 300 miles per hour, compressed air is continuously blown over a special piece of glass in front of the lens, keeping it clean and clear. The system is so powerful, the water is removed before it even hits the glass. On top of this, they’ve added the same air filter that is used in fighter jets to ensure that any small debris does not get into the blower system and inevitably end up scratching the glass.

The Prodigy does generate a quite bit of noise at 64dB full power, but it is still quieter than traditional spinning discs. Another benefit of using a blower system vs moving/spinning parts is that it does not produce a dead spot in the middle of the lens when shooting up or down, and there is no centrifugal force when shooting handheld as there is no need to counter resist any vibration and movement. The blower also alleviates any potential fogging or condensation build up that may occur.

The Prodigy is user-friendly and priced well below any competitive products on the market. The system is said to be available by the end of 2019.

Bright Tangerine also showed off off their new Drumstix Sterling Titanium Support Rods that offer solid support and featherweight mass.

At a quarter of the weight of stainless steel rods, they are ideal for filmmakers on the go. Travelling with rigging can be a cumbersome task, having these lightweight rods in your carry on when you fly will certainly lighten the load. Save flight time on your gimbal, become more dextrous in the field; these rods will give you freedom.

The rods come in 15mm or 19mm diameters at various lengths and already available for purchase.
