Save the most iconic instances of life with this brand-new Sony a7 III. The camera’s fast, simple and reliable functionality greatly complement the power of its innovative back-lit, full-frame, 24.2 MP sensor.

With its cutting-edge, back-illuminated image sensor, this a7 III can achieve levels of quality and performance usually reserved for full-frame DSLRs.

All this speed and imaging ingenuity has been housed within an ergonomic, compact body to place advanced creative control, power and adaptability into the palms of your hands.

The control and interface of this a7 III have been optimized for maximum ease-of-use. Its ergonomic efficiency continues with the crystal-clear Tru-Finder, versatile connectivity, lengthy shooting capabilities and physical durability against extended use as well as wet and dusty environments*(1).

Utilizing a 5-axis stabilization system, the a7 III is designed with a shutter speed advantage of 5 steps*(2) and will compensate for five types of camera shake through a wide variety of lenses.

Compatible with USB Type-CTM this camera is capable of smooth and easy high-speed PC Remote data transfer, especially useful during the tethered capture of high resolution images.

This camera will easily fit into your workflow as up to 30 of your favourite items can be saved to your “My Menu” for quick access.

AF Technology

Harnessing the same, optimised AF technology found in the a9, this a7 III can track focus on even the most erratically moving subjects.

While shooting video, a wide AF area is still available, utilizing a reduced low-end AF drive speed for more emphasis on slow focus effects.

In continuous shooting mode, this a7 III can capture silent*(3) bursts of 10fps, at max resolution, with AF/AE tracking.

This a7 III boasts 693 phase-detection AF points covering about 93% image area, plus 425 densely positioned contrast-detection AF points to improve focus.

Combining focal-plane phase-detection AF with high-precision contrast-detection AF, Sony’s sophisticated Fast Hybrid AF can capture fast-moving subjects in razor-sharp images. This system excels in performance to double AF speed.

Advanced AF algorithms contribute to high AF precision down to light levels as low as EV-3*(4), for more reliable autofocus in dark scenes.

The AF is even compatible with A-mount lenses via the LA-EA3 mount adaptor*(5).

With the cooperation of Eye AF and AF-C mode, eye tracking is fast and precise – functioning even if your subject’s face is partially hidden, downward facing or backlit.*(6)

Focus control is at your fingertips, as the touchscreen allows you to specify a focus point and/or drag that focus frame while looking through the viewfinder.

In stills mode you can use AF while magnified and/or magnify after using AF – perfect for precisely focusing on small areas.

Five levels of AF tracking sensitivity are available when capturing stills.

Continuous Shooting*(7)

A single burst can consist of up to 177 JPEGs, 89 compressed RAW or 40 uncompressed RAW images.

During continuous shooting and high shutter speed photography, the a7 III will compensate for artificial light flicker and minimize noticeable changes in exposure or colour.*(8)

While in continuous mode, you can view, erase or protect groups of images as well as access the menu, change settings and playback images during data writing.*(9)

Capable of being powered by a NP-FZ100 battery instead of the NP-FW50 battery, this a7 III can capture about 710*(10) stills before the battery needs to be recharged.

This a7 III hosts two SD card slots, offering overflow, backup, simultaneous RAW/JPEG recording as well as quick transfer between two inserted SD cards. One of the slots accept UHS-II cards for faster data writing.

4K Motion Capture*(11)

This camera is capable of top-class 4K motion capture through 2.4-times*(12) higher oversampling, additionally supporting a fast-paced HDR*(13) workflow with its state-of-the-art HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile.

Full frame 4K HDR (HLG) sample movie

S-Log3 widens the dynamic range up to 14 stops and improves gradation from shadows to mid-tones.

Frame rates from 1 to 120/100 fps*(14) are available for up to 60x quick motion and 5x slow motion.*(15)

The a7 III offers both Full-frame and Super 35mm as selectable modes. In 35mm full-frame mode, it is possible for full-pixel readout without binning, to condense about 2.4x the data needed for 4K QFHD video (3840x2160), reducing the potential for moiré and jaggies. Additionally, shooting in 4K integrates XAVC S format at up to 100 Mbps.

Back-illuminated Sensor

The new 24.2 MP sensor is now boosted with back illumination, the latest BIONZ XTM image processor as well as front-end LSI for a data readout speed twice as fast and data processing 1.8x higher than the α7 II.

The aforementioned image processor and front-end LSI, process images in 16-bit signals to subsequently permit 14-bit RAW*(16) data output in silent or burst mode*(17).

The back-illuminated, full-frame CMOS image sensor optimises light collection, expands circuitry scale, outputs data at a very high speed and minimises noise for crisper image detail.

Shave down post-production time, as your a7 III guarantees true-to-life colour reproduction straight off the sensor. Skin, sky and vivid hues come to life in every still.

ISO sensitivity*(18)

The ISO goes beyond the norm, reaching from 100 to 51200 - expandable to reach from 50 to 2048006 for stills. Integrated Detail Reproduction and Area-specific Noise Reduction systems will improve image quality by minimizing noise. Now you’ll be free to shoot at medium to high ISO settings without risking your image quality.

This a7 III will let you expand your creative use of light as it’s capable of about 15 stops of dynamic range (at a low-sensitivity) to allow for a smooth shadow-to-highlight gradation.

The Imaging Edge software suite will optimise your a7 III workflow by allowing you to remotely control your camera, use your computer as a live-view screen and edit your image, getting it from RAW to result.
